About Us

Swinburne works to increase Australia’s capacity in science, technology, innovation, business and design – the drivers of modern, internationalised economies and workplaces. To achieve this for our students, staff and partners, we concentrate on focused, high-impact research, high-quality teaching and active engagement with government, industry and the wider community.

We provide a personal experience for our students, and we are recognised for quality teaching, relevant courses and excellent facilities. Our aim is to provide students with skills, insights and opportunities that will make a difference to their future through a rewarding and rounded student experience.

We employ only highly qualified and credentialed staff, with relevant knowledge and experience in the fields in which they teach. Their impact on students has been consistently recognised by the Good Universities Guide, with some of the highest ratings for teaching quality and graduate satisfaction. We offer qualifications from vocational certificates to undergraduate degrees and PhDs, with pathways through the study levels, flexible teaching modes and appropriate learning styles for any student.

Meaningful industry engagement provides enormous benefits in curriculum and teaching. Courses that respond to the future needs of employers bring added relevance to our graduates in the workplace: the ability to apply their learning in work settings can push them ahead in the job market and accelerate their career advancement.

Our university culture and curriculum is enriched by multidisciplinary research partnerships. Swinburne achieved 'top 400’ status in the Academic Rankings of World Universities last year, reflecting our international reputation for research excellence.

The mission of Swinburne today continues the vision espoused by our founder, George Swinburne, more than 100 years ago – creating opportunity through education.
